About
The business took the TechTO stage in August 2018 as Cogeco Peer 1, a Toronto-headquartered global technology company with 16 data centres worldwide, built from Vancouver's PEER 1 Network Enterprises after Cogeco Cable acquired it in December 2012 in a take-over bid valuing PEER 1 at roughly $635 million. Jaime Leverton, then general manager for Canada and Asia-Pacific, used her five minutes to argue that diversity is a prerequisite for long-term growth in tech, citing McKinsey's projection that equal economic participation by women could add US$28 trillion to global GDP by 2025 and noting that women made up 27 per cent of Canada's ICT workforce, down from 30 per cent in 2011. Cogeco Communications announced the sale of the subsidiary to Digital Colony on 27 February 2019 and closed it on 1 May 2019 for C$720 million; the company rebranded as Aptum Technologies that August, the name chosen to signal adaptability. It sold its eight Canadian data centres and their colocation customers to eStruxture in 2021, remaining one of eStruxture's largest Canadian customers, and acquired Montreal-based CloudOps in January 2023 to deepen its hybrid multi-cloud managed-services business.
