Johnson III, went public on Nasdaq in 2021, and shut BuzzFeed News in April 2023 as part of a 15% workforce cut, concentrating news in HuffPost. In May 2026 Byron Allen's family office completed a purchase of roughly 51% of the outstanding shares for US$120 million; Allen became chairman and CEO and Peretti moved to a new role as president of BuzzFeed AI.
