About

The corporate entity dates to 1992, when Ceridian was spun out of Control Data. The product that took over the company came later: David Ossip founded Dayforce in Toronto in 2009 as a single cloud application for HR, payroll, benefits and workforce management, sold it to Ceridian in 2012, became Ceridian's CEO in 2013 and its chairman in 2015. The Globe and Mail's account of the turnaround describes a Toronto entrepreneur rebuilding an American has-been; the official headquarters stayed in Minneapolis while the executive team and much of the engineering sat in Toronto. Ceridian went public in 2018, raised more than $400 million, and formally became Dayforce on 1 February 2024, trading as DAY on both the NYSE and TSX. Thoma Bravo agreed to take it private in August 2025 and closed the US$12.3 billion deal on 4 February 2026, at US$70.00 a share, with a minority investment from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Backers

Owned by Thoma Bravo since February 2026, with a significant minority investment from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Previously listed on the NYSE and TSX as DAY.
