Lombard started ecobee on the premise that most home energy is wasted heating and cooling empty rooms, and shipped a connected thermostat years before the category had a name. The company took on Google's Nest and stayed independent until Generac bought it in 2021. Lombard retired as CEO and president in November 2023 after sixteen years; Greg Fyke succeeded him.
