About
Jai Mansukhani and Anthony Azrak founded the company in 2024 as OpenSesame, after a water leak of their own turned into weeks of calls and a higher premium. It was the only Canadian company selected for a16z Speedrun from over 10,000 applicants, and rebranded to General Magic in 2025 — a deliberate homage to the 1989 Apple spin-out, which is a separate and defunct company. With one of the world's largest general insurers it cut time-to-quote from about 30 minutes to under three.
Backers
US$7.2M seed led by Radical Ventures with a16z Speedrun and Comma Capital, plus angels including Aidan Gomez (Cohere) and Brendan O'Driscoll (Figma); US$8.4M raised in total

Quick answers
What does General Magic do?
It runs insurance brokerage servicing over text — gathering underwriting information, sending renewal reminders, answering policy questions and taking claims details — using AI agents layered on existing systems.
Is this the General Magic from the 1990s?
No. That was a 1989 Apple spin-out, now defunct and the subject of a documentary. This is an unrelated Toronto company founded in 2024; the name is an intentional homage.
What was OpenSesame?
The company's original name. It is unrelated to opensesame.com, the US corporate e-learning marketplace.
