About
Keela was a Vancouver software company that sold customer relationship management and fundraising tooling built specifically for nonprofits — donor records, giving history, campaign and communications management. It was founded in 2013 by Nejeed Kassam and Hussain Karbalai; Kassam, a lawyer by training, took the TechVancouver stage in April 2017 with a talk about keeping your ego out of an early-stage company. Jeff Hemmett served as chief revenue officer and told the story of the company's first hundred customers at TechVancouver in December 2018, in a talk titled '0 to 100 Real Quick..ish'. In June 2024 Aplos, a California nonprofit accounting software company backed by Alpine Investors, acquired Keela, pairing Keela's donor management with Aplos's accounting suite and Raisely's fundraising products to form what the companies described as the first fully integrated cloud platform for nonprofits.
