About
Kepler's pitch is that space is running out of bandwidth on the way home: a satellite collecting data has to wait until it flies over a ground station to send it. Kepler is building relay satellites in two near-orthogonal sun-synchronous planes, connected by optical inter-satellite links, so other operators' spacecraft can hand off data continuously. The company was founded in Toronto in 2015 by a group out of the University of Toronto's aerospace program, including chief executive Mina Mitry and Wen Cheng Chong, who served as chief technology officer. It has raised more than US$200 million in equity since 2016, including a US$92 million Series C led by IA Ventures in April 2023.
