Dax Dasilva founded Lightspeed in Montreal in 2005 and ran it for sixteen years, through a 2019 listing and an aggressive acquisition run, before stepping down as CEO in February 2022. He returned to the role in 2024. The company sells point-of-sale, payments and commerce software to independent retailers and restaurants, and reports its results in US dollars on a fiscal year ending 31 March. Fiscal 2025 was the first year revenue passed $1 billion; fiscal 2026 closed at $1,227.0 million, up 14 percent, with fourth-quarter revenue of $290.8 million, gross profit up 15 percent year over year, and about 3,200 net customer locations added in the quarter.
