About
MedStack sells plumbing, and its co-founder was blunt about it. Balaji Gopalan told the TechTO stage in 2018 that his product was boring, had no UI, and that investors kept asking to see something — so he learned to tell his customers' stories instead of his own. What MedStack does is remove the compliance work that sits between a health app and a hospital: inheritable security controls, policy templates and audit support, so a developer can prove the app meets the standards without rebuilding them. It launched in March 2015, went through Dreamit Health, Creative Destruction Lab and 500 Startups, raised US$1.8M led by TELUS Ventures in 2019 and US$3.1M in 2021, acquired the privacy-program builder Exos in 2023, and joined Launchit Solutions in November 2024. The product still ships; MedStack is now a registered trademark of Launchit Solutions Inc.

Quick answers
What does MedStack do?
It hosts digital health applications in the cloud wrapped in the security controls and privacy paperwork healthcare buyers require — HIPAA, PIPEDA, GDPR and SOC 2 — so a developer can prove compliance and sell into hospitals and insurers without building it all themselves. Gopalan described it on stage as 'the Heroku for healthcare'.
Who founded MedStack?
Balaji Gopalan and Simon Woodside. They introduced the concept at a digital health conference in March 2015, demonstrating health data from a wearable surfaced in a compliant cloud interface.
Was MedStack acquired?
Yes. Launchit Solutions Inc., a Hamilton health technology studio, announced its asset acquisition of MedStack on 1 November 2024. The product still ships and MedStack is a registered trademark of Launchit Solutions.
