About

Laurie Clark had already founded two fintech companies — Canchek Corporation and the Smarten Up Institute, which built the SmartDirect system — when she started Onyen in March 2021, on the reasoning that reporting rules and investor demands for responsible-investment data had not paused for COVID. Onyen's software collects environmental, social and governance data, monitors and benchmarks it, and turns it into the disclosures companies need to raise capital, with mining and resource issuers among the industries it targets. Clark was named to the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards' "Ones to Watch" list in 2023. She took the TechTO stage in September 2018 for an earlier venture, presenting on failures that fed her success.
