About
Q4 sells software to the investor relations departments of publicly traded companies. Darrell Heaps founded it in Toronto in 2006 and told the TechTO stage in 2017 that the first four or five years were effectively a different company before a pivot produced the growth. It went public on the TSX in October 2021 at $12 a share, raising C$100M, then went private again in February 2024 when Sumeru Equity Partners bought it for C$257M — $6.05 a share, roughly half the IPO price. Heaps was CEO until September 2025 and is now chairman and chief strategy officer; Lewis Black is CEO. The company operated under the name Q4 Web Systems at the time of Heaps's 2015 TechTO talk.
Backers
Wholly owned by Sumeru Equity Partners since the C$257M take-private that closed 1 Feb 2024. Publicly traded on the TSX (QFOR) from October 2021 until then; Ten Coves Capital was among the shareholders bought out. Heaps told the TechTO stage in August 2015 that Q4 had raised about $8.5M to date and was starting a Series B.
