About
RBC unveiled RBC Ventures on 13 June 2018 as a separate division with a blunt premise: build services people use before they need a bank, and the banking relationship follows. Founded and led by Mike Dobbins, the group launched more than 15 businesses and acquired four, including Ownr, which handles business registration and incorporation, and Arrive, a service for newcomers to Canada. Its investing arm backed technology companies in fintech, AI and data, commerce and payments, enterprise IT and security; League, Maple and SecureKey were among the names in the portfolio. In September 2022 RBC merged Ventures with RBCx under the RBCx name, a combined group of roughly 500 people serving about 4,000 technology and innovation clients, and rbcventures.ca now points at RBCx. Hector Crespo, then head of strategic design at RBC Ventures, appeared on TechTO Talent in January 2022 on what an employer actually sees when applications arrive.
