About
Eamonn O'Rourke's insight was that a tradesperson who leaves a job site to fetch materials is gone for hours, and that the lost hours compound over months and years. He and his co-founders built what he called an incredibly scrappy MVP around a single assumption — that a contractor could be convinced to buy construction materials digitally. It took one day to prove: they drove branded vans between Montreal job sites handing out free coffee in exchange for a sales pitch, and booked their first order on day two. The company bootstrapped for 12 to 18 months, opened Toronto after a competitor tried to clone it there, then raised a friends-and-family round, a seed round with ScaleUp Ventures and Real Ventures, and eventually a US$142M round led by Tiger Global in February 2022. Fourteen months later it was insolvent.

Quick answers
What was RenoRun?
A delivery service that brought construction materials directly to job sites, so contractors did not have to send someone to a supplier mid-job. It operated in Montreal, Toronto and several US markets.
Is RenoRun still operating?
No. It filed for creditor protection in Quebec on 27 March 2023 after failing to secure bridge financing, and its websites no longer resolve.
How did RenoRun get its first customers?
O'Rourke told TechTO that he and a co-founder each drove a branded van from job site to job site in Montreal giving builders free coffee so they would sit through a sales pitch. The first order came on the second day.
Why did RenoRun expand to Toronto so early?
A competitor cloned the idea "word for word" and moved on Toronto, so RenoRun opened the market first, about six months after launching in Montreal.
