About
A cue sheet is the document that decides whether a composer gets paid: it records every musical element in an audiovisual production, and rights societies distribute royalties from it. Soundmouse uses recognition technology and AI to generate and reconcile those cue sheets instead of having people compile them by hand.
The company is headquartered in London, with operations in Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Bulgaria and Greece. Ownership has changed twice recently: Orfium acquired Soundmouse in January 2023, and BMI agreed to buy it from Orfium in May 2026, closing in June. BMI said the deal was funded from operating cash and would not affect distributions to its affiliates, and that Soundmouse would keep running as an independent company with BMI as one of its largest clients.
David McIninch was appointed General Manager of Soundmouse in June 2026. He spoke on the TechTO stage in June 2019 on product positioning, while based in Toronto in a different industry.
Backers
Wholly owned by BMI since June 2026, acquired from Orfium, which had owned it since January 2023. Deal terms were not disclosed; BMI said the purchase was funded from operating cash.
