About

Aran Hamilton started Vantage in June 2013 after Canadian retailers told him they wanted his anti-showrooming tablet app — just not for another five years. He recruited data scientist Brandon Kane instead, demoed a prototype on the Startup Train to Montreal, and built a SaaS analytics layer on top of Shopify, Magento and BigCommerce. It raised a $1.1M seed from Real Ventures and angels in 2014. The dashboard proved hard to monetize with small merchants, so the company pivoted in 2016 toward telling retailers what to do with the data and then running the ad campaigns for them — the 'data, insight, action' idea Hamilton pitched on the TechTO stage in 2015. By his 2018 TechTO talk it was working with retailers and brands in 127 countries. Today, trading as Vantage rather than Vantage Analytics, it sells retail media orchestration software to enterprise retailers including The Home Depot and Canadian Tire's Triangle Retail Media.
