One of the benefits of YC is that it plugs you into an ecosystem that you just don't have access to in Toronto and Canada.
We had raised a little bit of money before we went down to YC. In Canada we spent a long time doing it, it was really painful, and we met a bunch of amazing angels that were the first money to our company.
