The world will look different the day after a quantum computer is built.
I never want to work on an idea or a solution that forms the basis of a company if I don't like the product.
You have to get up every day and work really, really hard, long hours, seven days a week for many, many years. And so you want to do it that gives you some sort of meaning.

What is Christian Weedbrook known for?
Founding Xanadu in Toronto in 2016 and building photonic quantum computers — machines made of light that run at room temperature. Xanadu went public in March 2026 through a merger with the SPAC Crane Harbor Acquisition Corp.
What did Christian Weedbrook do before Xanadu?
He is from Brisbane and did his PhD there in photonic quantum computing, the same technology Xanadu builds. He was a researcher at MIT, then a postdoc at the University of Toronto, which is what brought him to the city in 2010. He said on TechTO's Founder Journey that he tried a few startups after high school and none worked.
