What we've noticed is that the higher the resolution, the higher the compression factor.
In lower resolution each pixel holds more information, because it takes more pixels to represent the same object — so with lower resolution we still compress, but to a smaller degree.

Who is Francis Doumet?
The co-founder and chief executive of Metaspectral, which he started with Migel Tissera in Vancouver in 2018. The company began as PixelDrive, an image compression product they demoed at TechVancouver that October.
What does Metaspectral do?
It deploys deep-learning models against ultra-high-resolution hyperspectral imagery, so a system can tell materials apart in real time — used in recycling lines, agriculture, defence and earth observation from orbit.
How is it funded?
A $4.7-million seed round in November 2022 from SOMA Capital, Acequia Capital, the Government of Canada and angel investors, and more than $1 million of federal funding announced in September 2025 for hard-to-recycle plastics.
