BetaKit reported on 2016-10-18 that Greg Wolfond founded SecureKey in 2007 and was returning as CEO, after Charles Walton had held the CEO role from 2012.

BetaKit reported on 2022-03-24 that Avast was acquiring SecureKey, quoting Wolfond as founder and CEO. The same piece noted that Interac had acquired exclusive Canadian rights to SecureKey's digital ID services in late 2021, and that SecureKey's roughly 116 employees would stay in Canada.

SecureKey's archived team page (Wayback Machine capture, 2021-01-20) says Wolfond's earlier ventures include Footprint Software, a financial software company sold to IBM, and 724 Solutions, a wireless infrastructure software provider taken public. Blue Sky Capital's team page, checked 2026-09-25, dates Footprint to 1983, the IBM sale to 1995 and the 724 Solutions listing to 2000.
Why did Wolfond start SecureKey?
In a Latitude 44 interview published 2019-10-04, Wolfond said digital identity is broken and that Wolfond founded SecureKey to address it. Wolfond described SecureKey Concierge, launched in 2012, which let people sign in to over 80 Government of Canada agencies using bank or credit union login credentials.
