In their words
A leader leads. It doesn't come from a name. It doesn't come from a title. Are you going to lead?
I always like to say don't focus on an idea, focus on a problem that needs to be solved. If there's a billion dollar problem out there, somebody's making a billion dollars.
It's a little bit like a marriage — you can't bring somebody in and say they'll be great as soon as I change them. Everybody you bring in to your company changes your culture. The more senior they are, the more they change it.

Quick answers
Who is Jeff Shiner?
Executive chairman of 1Password's board. He joined the Toronto company in 2012 to run it, when it was a 20-person bootstrapped consumer app, and led it as CEO for 13 years.
Is Jeff Shiner still CEO of 1Password?
No. He moved to executive chair in July 2025 after 13 years as CEO; David Faugno, co-CEO since November 2024, became sole CEO.
What did Jeff Shiner say on the TechTO stage?
That the 2014 decision to rebuild 1Password as a B2B SaaS product with 40 bootstrapped people was the bet that changed the company — more than three quarters of revenue is B2B today, and at the time it 'scared the hell out of me'.
