But how do we make money, you ask? Rakuten.ca works in the affiliate space, and retailers pay us a commission to send them our customers. Instead of keeping all that money, we split the commission with our members and give them cold hard cash, no strings attached.
We saw the need for change in our customer journey before COVID, but what the pandemic did was really accelerate that need exponentially.
If you take care of your people, your people will take care of you. And that's really what we need now in order for us to continue to innovate as fast.

General Manager of Rakuten.ca, the Canadian cash-back shopping site (formerly Ebates.ca). She joined as one of the first hires before the Canadian launch in 2012 and became GM in 2018.
What does Rakuten.ca do?
It pays members cash back when they shop through the site to partner retailers. Retailers pay Rakuten a commission and Rakuten splits it with members, paid out quarterly. Membership is free.
How is Rakuten.ca connected to Ebates?
Rakuten.ca is the rebranded Ebates.ca. Rakuten, the Japanese conglomerate, acquired Ebates in 2014 for about US$1 billion and later renamed the cash-back business Rakuten.
