Quick answers
What was Matt Nowina's role when he spoke at TechTO?
Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services. TechTO's event listing for Scaling with Amazon Web Services (10 October 2017, MaRS Discovery District) gives that title, as does the LinuxCon + ContainerCon North America 2016 speaker page, which places him in the Toronto area.
What did he tell the TechTO audience?
He traced AWS from Amazon's own move to service-oriented architecture to the December 2016 launch of its Canadian region, and argued that the cloud had cut the cost of starting a company to the point where one person with a credit card could do it (TechTO stage, October 2017).
Was he the first AWS solutions architect in Canada?
That is his own description: on the TechTO stage in October 2017 he said he was the first solutions architect AWS hired for Canada. No independent source for the claim was found.
Where is he now?
Not publicly documented. A listing for Google Cloud Next '20 (April 2020) names him as Manager, Cloud Customer Engineering at Google Cloud; nothing citable was found on a later role when this page was checked in October 2026.
