In their words

We started off as a visual effects company, so we worked on a lot of Marvel, a lot of Netflix. And in 2019 we just started to ask ourselves what might a differentiated business look like in the space.

It literally just listens to the new audio and you click go, and it regenerates pretty much everything from the eyes down according to that new audio.

Quick answers

What is LipDub AI?

Software that re-generates an actor's mouth and lower face to match a new audio track, so dubbed video looks spoken rather than voiced over. Panousis told TechTO in June 2024 it took two years to build and priced it at about eight dollars a minute.

Why did a VFX company build AI products?

Panousis says MARZ looked at a homogeneous visual-effects market in 2019 and asked what a differentiated business would look like, then started automating VFX use cases. Its first AI product was a beautification and touch-up tool for celebrities.

Who uses it outside Hollywood?

Advertising agencies, for three things Panousis described on stage: localising ads into other languages without a re-shoot, extending the shelf life of footage already shot, and generating thousands of script variants of one asset for performance marketing.
