Who is Matthew Spoke?
The founder of Nuco, the Toronto blockchain software company behind the Aion network. He is a chartered accountant who studied accounting at the University of Ottawa and spent about three years in tax at Deloitte, where he went on to build the firm's blockchain team before leaving to start his own company.
What happened to Nuco and Aion?
Nuco created Aion, a network for connecting independent blockchains, and handed it to the non-profit Aion Foundation in 2018 — Spoke told Cryptovest in May 2018 that the company was shutting down its client-services business and rebranding as a non-profit R&D initiative. The foundation became The Open Application Network in 2019.
How did he decide to leave Deloitte?
Investors would not take him seriously while he still had the job. He had a fallback — two MBA acceptances — and quit anyway; he met his angel investor two days after sending the resignation email (TechTO, October 2016).
