Michael Do is a co-founder and the CTO of MedEssist, the Toronto company whose software helps community pharmacies run clinical services. A pharmacist and programmer, he graduated from U of T's Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy in 2010 and managed an independent Toronto pharmacy, where he and Joella Almeida started MedEssist.

How did MedEssist start?

The University of Toronto's Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy reported in October 2025 that Do, who manages a pharmacy in Toronto's Parkdale neighbourhood, was building a computer-vision tool to help his senior patients take their medications when he met Joella Almeida through mutual friends. The two launched MedEssist in 2019 with support from U of T's Health Innovation Hub (H2i).

What is Michael Do's background?

U of T's alumni news reported in April 2021 that Do earned his BScPharm in 2010 and had been a preceptor at the Faculty of Pharmacy for many years. The faculty reported in October 2025 that he was named a 2025 University of Toronto Arbor Award recipient, the university's highest honour for volunteers.

Has Michael Do been interviewed about pharmacy?
