Quick answers
What was his TechTO talk about?
That machine learning in search was not news. He said in April 2018 that he had written the case twelve years earlier in a marketing column, and that the real shift was toward digital assistants: if you are talking to a car, there is nothing to click, which is a problem for pay-per-click. He closed on the intention economy — markets organised around what buyers say they want.
What was his role at Acronym?
Chief marketing officer and managing director. He had worked at Acronym before, left in 2009 for Incisive Media as group publishing director for interactive marketing, and rejoined in the CMO role, which a 2014 announcement of the move describes as running thought leadership and cross-platform marketing.
