In their words

Garage is focused on two main categories. We call them our enterprise software and our moonshot categories. All early stage, pre-seed and seed, based in Waterloo — but we invest all over Canada and the US.

I started a company called BufferBox, and we were in the smart locker space. So for the first little while running Garage, I received a lot of pitches around package delivery and smart lockers — a space, unfortunately, I knew too much about.

Sometimes people don't necessarily realize that we do invest across both of those categories, even though they seem like they're very different. Across our founding team, the three of us, we actually have experience across both quite deeply.

Quick answers

What is Garage Capital?

A pre-seed and seed fund based in the Waterloo region, co-founded in 2013 by Mike McCauley and Vidyard's Michael Litt and Devon Galloway. It invests across Canada and the US in two buckets: enterprise software and moonshots.

What did Mike McCauley build before investing?

BufferBox, a network of automated parcel lockers that went through Y Combinator in 2012 and was acquired by Google.

What did he say founders get wrong when pitching him?

Pitching him his own old company. On the TiEQuest 2026 panel he said that for a long stretch of running Garage he kept receiving package-delivery and smart-locker pitches — the one space he knew too much about — and that the whole panel agreed founders should not pitch a VC on the business that VC already built.
