A patent creates an asset that exists and is owned by the company. If you leave, or if other founders leave, that asset remains with the company — and that can give investors a lot of confidence.
You can't expect that if you get a patent, someone's going to drive a dump truck full of money to your office and just leave it there. And it's not a licence to operate either.
Patents aren't for everybody. It's an expensive process and at the end of the day maybe it's not for you — and no competent patent attorney is going to try and convince you to go for patents where it doesn't make sense.
