Agile by Design

Agile by Design is a consultancy that rebranded to abd.works, keeping twenty years of delivery experience and shifting its focus from agile transformation to building what it calls Human+AI systems of work. Its argument: AI amplifies whatever system already exists, so fix the human system first.

About

The firm changed names but not its work. Its old domain now carries a single notice: "Agile by Design is now abd.works. Same firm. Same discipline. We're taking twenty years of hands-on delivery experience forward. Our focus is evolving from agile transformation to building Human+AI systems of work that deliver accelerated value, not amplified dysfunction."

The new site argues the case with published figures rather than promises. It cites 88% of organisations now using AI but only 7% running it end to end, 4% throughput growth for the median team against 97% for the top 5%, 80% of organisations yet to see any revenue growth from AI, 30% of merges into production failing, and 69% of prioritised AI use cases never reaching clients — sourcing them to McKinsey's State of AI 2025, Deloitte's State of AI in the Enterprise 2026, ISG's State of Enterprise AI Adoption 2025 and CircleCI's 2026 State of Software Delivery.

What it sells follows from that: redesigning workflows end to end, tying adoption to revenue, cost and client outcomes, and building systems of work that speed up collaborative loops. Its own record, as stated on the site, includes 4× faster delivery on patterned backend work at a Tier 1 bank, no contractual penalties paid on a $100M-plus credit card platform turnaround, and a 77% reduction in blocked work items.

Quick answers

Is Agile by Design still operating?

Yes, under a new name. Its old site says the firm is now abd.works — same firm, same discipline — with its focus moving from agile transformation to building Human+AI systems of work.

What does the firm actually do?

It redesigns how work moves through an organisation: end-to-end workflow redesign, tying AI adoption to revenue, cost and client outcomes, and building systems of work that speed up collaboration between people.

What is its argument about AI?

That AI amplifies whatever already exists. Without a disciplined foundation it accelerates the dysfunction a company already had — which is why the firm works on the human system rather than the tools.
