Bliinx

Bliinx was a Montreal startup that tried to replace the CRM for go-to-market teams with a lightweight relationship timeline built into inbox, calendar and Teams. Fred Melanson founded it out of McGill, raised a $1M CAD pre-seed with 500 Startups and Panache Ventures, and it wound down by 2022.

No longer operating — bliinx.com is now listed for sale by a domain broker and the product is no longer available; startup databases record the company as inactive from 2022.

About

Fred Melanson built his network by bartending at a high-end restaurant in downtown Montreal while at McGill, on the explicit theory that it was the fastest way for a student to meet the executives he would need later. Asking those customers how they kept track of their own contacts produced the same answer every time — manually, and never in the CRM they paid for. Bliinx aimed at that gap, aggregating a company's interactions with a contact into one timeline that lived where people already worked. He and co-founder Stephane Melanson validated the idea with prototypes before writing code, which is how they recruited CTO Nathan Larue away from Google. Melanson raised his first angel cheque before graduating.

Quick answers

What was Bliinx?

A lightweight alternative to the CRM for go-to-market teams. It plugged into inbox, calendar and Teams and pulled every interaction with a contact into a single relationship timeline, rather than asking salespeople to log activity by hand.

Is Bliinx still operating?

No. The product is gone and bliinx.com is listed for sale by a domain broker; startup databases record the company as inactive from 2022.

How did Bliinx find its CTO?

Melanson told TechTO that Nathan Larue said no twice. He and co-founder Stephane Melanson built prototypes of the product without code, used one to get a client to sign a contract, and went back to Larue — then at Google — with a paying customer in hand.

What was the founding insight?

Melanson bartended in a downtown Montreal restaurant to meet executives, and every one of them told him they managed their contacts manually while paying for a CRM they disliked.
