About

Canopy Labs took a company's transaction history and turned it into forecasts — which customers were about to churn, what they would buy next, which offer to put in front of them. By the time of its sale it had analysed over $20 billion in sales data and built more than 100 million customer profiles across some 300 companies, including JetBlue and Travelocity. Wojciech Gryc founded it in Toronto in 2012 and took it through Y Combinator. Drop Technologies, the Toronto rewards app, acquired it in November 2018 for its work on predictive modelling and behavioural loyalty; Gryc has since founded Phase AI and Emerging Trajectories.

Drop Technologies acquired it in November 2018. Drop had raised a US$21 million Series A led by NEA earlier that year and wanted Canopy's predictive modelling for its rewards platform.

What did Canopy Labs do?

It built predictive customer analytics — profiles and behaviour forecasts from a company's own sales data, used to target offers and anticipate churn.
