About

Darren Gallop and Laird Wilton started the company as Securicy in 2016, after selling their previous business, the music-industry software company Marcato, showed them how much security and privacy work a small company has to do and how little of it is built for one. The platform turns security frameworks into plain-English policies, evidence collection and remediation tasks, with an advisory team that works inside the same system and manages the auditor relationship. The company rebranded to Carbide on 1 February 2022 — the name is a nod to the carbide lamps Cape Breton miners used to light the way ahead — and announced a $4.1 million seed round at the same time.

Backers

Allos Ventures and Build Ventures led the 2022 seed round, with Concrete Ventures and Hub Angels Investment Group; Techstars is also listed among its investors.
