About
Hannah Cree lost her home in the 2013 Calgary flood, and the business she and Dave Cree started three years later was built around a systems gap she had seen up close: people in the shelter system needed a stable job at a living wage more than they needed another programme. CMNGD's answer was a commercial laundry — an unglamorous, steady-demand industry — serving Calgary restaurants with rented linens, and staffed by people facing barriers to work. The Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre gave the company after-hours use of its laundry facility, and the partnership became central to how it hired. "Everything that we do within the business is for the common good of people, the planet and profit for purpose," Cree told SheEO. By the time of its early coverage the company was serving 15 Calgary restaurants and aiming for 50, and the Crees hoped the transitional-employment model could be copied into other industries. Hannah Cree spoke at TechTO in November 2020 on getting your foot in the door; she has also built a startup accelerator and worked in radio.
