About

CrowdRiff indexes photos and video shared by travellers and local creators and puts them into a search engine destination marketers can query — 'family hiking at sunset with their dog' — instead of commissioning staged photo shoots. Holowack found that market only after trying consumer subscriptions and then large enterprise contracts, both of which he described on the TechTO stage as hard ways to build a business. The company bootstrapped to $1M ARR before raising a seed round in 2016 and a Series A led by Leaders Fund in 2018. It later added Localhood, a creator brand whose app has local creators producing original short-form video for destinations.
