About
Dose came out of a problem Ray Newal had lived. Running his earlier startup Jigsee he had a team of about thirty in Mumbai and five in Ottawa, and he found that getting the two groups into live conversation — the thing that actually moved work forward — was the hardest part of running a distributed company. Dose sat inside Slack and made a live discussion easy to start: type /d in any channel, and it checked the team's availability, proposed a time, posted the prompt into the channel when the moment came, and moved the conversation into a separate short-lived space so the rest of the channel was not interrupted. Afterwards it generated a recap that could be shared with people who had not been there. Newal demoed it at TechTO in November 2016 and told the room it was already live in the Slack App Directory, and that the team was still trying to crack the hard part — inferring when someone is cognitively available. He went on to run Techstars in India, to lead capital and ecosystem work at MaRS, and to become chief executive of the C100.

No funding is published for Dose. Newal's earlier company Jigsee raised from Sequoia Capital and Indian angels, which is a fact about Jigsee, not this company.
