About
Dumouchel has been on Donald Street in Ottawa since 1948, selling grass-fed beef, grain-fed chicken, naturally raised pork and luxury cuts, prepared by hand and packed the day before delivery. Its current owner arrived by an unusual route. Ian Slipacoff joined his father's wholesale meat business in 2003 after leaving university, and spent eighteen years there, growing it from $1 million a year to $10 million. In 2014, having watched a Shopify team build a storefront for an Ottawa Italian grocer, he launched a direct-to-consumer fresh meat store — early enough that, as he told TechTO, nobody else in Canadian meat was doing it and there was no marketing playbook to copy. That business was positioned for the moment the pandemic pushed grocery online, and the growth that followed is what he is known for. In January 2021 he walked away from the family company entirely and bought Dumouchel. He is also a partner in Bingeworthy Snacks, a high-protein beef crisp brand that started with a dehydrator bought the week a co-founder pitched him the idea. He spoke at TechTO's Commerce Toronto in May 2026.
Backers
Privately owned. Slipacoff acquired the business outright; no outside investment is on the public record.

Quick answers
What is Dumouchel Meat & Deli?
A butcher shop and deli at 351 Donald Street in Ottawa, founded in 1948. It sells grass-fed beef, grain-fed chicken, naturally raised pork and luxury cuts, cut and prepared by hand, in store and through online orders cut fresh the day before delivery.
Who owns Dumouchel?
Ian Slipacoff, a third-generation butcher who acquired it after leaving his family's wholesale meat business in January 2021. He is not the founder — the shop predates him by more than seventy years.
What did Slipacoff build before this?
In 2014 he launched one of Canada's first direct-to-consumer fresh meat stores, on Shopify, out of the family wholesale business. He has said the idea came from watching a Shopify team build a storefront inside an Ottawa Italian grocer. The business was ready when the pandemic moved grocery online.
What else is he involved in?
He is a co-founder and partner in Bingeworthy Snacks, a high-protein beef crisp brand. He told the TechTO stage the first batch was made on a dehydrator he had bought the week before a co-founder proposed the product.
