Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited began on 24 October 1922, when brothers John William Billes and Alfred Jackson Billes put their combined savings into a Toronto tire and garage business; they incorporated as Canadian Tire Corporation in 1927. The company today is a multi-banner retailer headquartered at 2180 Yonge Street in Toronto, operating more than 1,600 retail stores across Canadian Tire Retail, SportChek, Mark's, Atmosphere, Sports Experts, Pro Hockey Life, PartSource and Party City, alongside Canadian Tire Financial Services, Gas+ and the CT REIT property vehicle. Greg Shelly, its vice-president of enterprise digital marketing, took the MarketingTO stage in December 2019 to describe what digital work looks like inside a hundred-year-old retailer — the constraints, the legacy systems and the reasons a large incumbent moves the way it does.
