Highline Beta

Highline Beta is a Toronto venture studio that co-creates startups with large corporations: it finds the opportunity, recruits founders, puts in pre-seed capital, and spins the company out. Marcus Daniels and Ben Yoskovitz founded it in 2016. It also runs corporate accelerators, including Aviva Canada's Safe & Connected.

About

Highline Beta was founded in Toronto in 2016 by Marcus Daniels and Ben Yoskovitz, and sits between a venture fund and a studio. Its model is corporate co-creation: work with a large company to find an opportunity its own structure cannot chase, recruit founders against it, invest pre-seed, and spin out an independent startup. Alongside that it runs corporate accelerator programmes — the Safe & Connected accelerator with Aviva Canada put two cohorts of urban safety and mobility startups through with Aviva staff as mentors. Highline Beta has appeared on the TechTO stage twice: Rohan Nair, then head of technology, on the future of identity in October 2019, and Valerie Swatkow, then chief development officer, hosting the Safe & Connected demo day in April 2022 with Aviva's Paul Fletcher and Nicole LeBlanc of the urban tech fund 2150.
