About
QV Studio was announced on 23 November 2023 as the first venture studio focused on quantum technologies, launched with the venture funds Quantonation and Quantacet and Québec's Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy. Its stated purpose is to "accelerate the creation of startups derived from university innovations in quantum fields" and to back them with "dilutive and non-dilutive financing, technological and commercial expertise, as well as cutting-edge research and development infrastructure."
It sits at 1950 rue Roy inside DistriQ, Sherbrooke's quantum innovation zone, in the Espace quantique 1 building — which is also where the studio's founders get lab space and shared technical services rather than having to build their own. Companies that join get a team of quantum-sector operators, R&D infrastructure, introductions to large organisations looking for quantum technology, and investment in cash and in kind.
Its reach beyond Sherbrooke has come through partnerships. QV Studio was appointed Quantum Lead for Lab2Market, Canada's national commercialisation network of more than 50 universities, colleges and institutions, putting it in charge of turning graduate quantum research into companies nationally. In November 2025 it launched a $250,000 funding program with Prompt, worth up to $50,000 per project, aimed at the proof-of-concept stage — as managing director Sarah Jenna put it, funding that "finances the proofs of concept necessary to trigger private investment."
