About
Ideal started as Ideal Candidate and became the AI layer companies bolted onto applicant tracking systems they already owned: screening high-volume applications, matching people to roles, and reporting on where a hiring funnel loses under-represented candidates. It raised US$3 million in 2017 from a group including Mike Durland, Michael Hyatt, Richard Hyatt and the MaRS Investment Accelerator Fund, partnered with Ceridian for about two years, and was acquired outright in 2021. Mondal and Ricci had already sold Field ID in December 2012; Ideal made two exits in under a decade. The product lives on as Dayforce Talent Intelligence, and Mondal now runs that product line as a general manager.

Quick answers
What did Ideal do?
It added AI screening, candidate matching and diversity analytics to the HR software companies already used, so recruiting teams could handle high application volumes and see where their funnel was losing people.
What happened to Ideal?
Ceridian acquired it in 2021 after roughly two years as a partner. The technology now ships as Dayforce Talent Intelligence and co-founder Somen Mondal is a general manager there.
Why is Ideal on the TechTO stage in 2016 talking about selling a company?
Because Mondal's talk was about his previous company. He walked through how Field ID was sold in December 2012 — approached at a trade show, three bidders within three months, an investment banker hired to play bad cop.
