Indochino

Indochino is a Vancouver made-to-measure menswear company founded in 2007 by Kyle Vucko and Heikal Gani. It started online-only, selling custom suits at a fraction of tailoring prices with no inventory, then added showrooms where customers are measured in person.

About

Indochino's original bet was that made-to-measure could be sold without a tailor's shop: take the order online, take the measurements from the customer, make each garment to order, ship it. No inventory, no rent, and the savings passed to a customer who would otherwise never have bought a custom suit. The showrooms came later and changed the business into a hybrid — the measurement is the part people wanted in person. Peter Housley joined as chief marketing officer in 2015 and moved to chief revenue officer in September 2017, taking on showroom revenue alongside the online P&L; growth ran over 50% year over year across that stretch. He took the TechVancouver stage in December 2017 with stories about what good data does to a retail business, and what its absence does.

Quick answers

What does Indochino sell?

Made-to-measure menswear — suits, shirts and outerwear built to a customer's own measurements, ordered online or fitted in a showroom.

Who founded Indochino?

Kyle Vucko and Heikal Gani in 2007. They were classmates in the University of Victoria business program.

Why did an online-only company open showrooms?

Measurement is the part customers wanted done in person. The showrooms turned a pure e-commerce model into a hybrid where the fitting happens in a store and the garment is still made to order.
