About
Isobar was Dentsu's digital-first creative network, formed in 2003 and operating in markets including Canada. In June 2022, at Cannes, Dentsu consolidated its creative agency brands — Isobar, 360i and DentsuMB among them — into one global network, Dentsu Creative, and the Isobar name was retired as a standalone agency brand. Charlie Almond, then VP of brand experience and strategy, took the TechTO marketing stage in February 2020 with a talk called ‘Influencer is a dirty word’, tracing today's mistrust of influencers back to the mid-2000s, when he ran PR for Gillette in the UK and traditional lifestyle journalists objected to bloggers being invited on the same press trips.
Backers
A Dentsu-owned agency network throughout its life; retired as a brand into Dentsu Creative in 2022.
Quick answers
Does Isobar still exist?
Not as a standalone brand. Dentsu folded Isobar, 360i and DentsuMB into a single global creative network, Dentsu Creative, in June 2022.
What was Isobar?
A digital-first creative agency network formed in 2003 and owned by Dentsu, working across brand experience, campaign strategy and digital creative.
What did its speaker argue at TechTO?
Charlie Almond drew a parallel between the mid-2000s backlash against bloggers on press trips and the current mistrust of influencers — in both cases, he argued, the incumbent media resented the newcomer's independence.
