About
Abacus was founded in Toronto by Peter Reitano, previously president of the digital agency Spark, and Jeff Goldenberg, previously head of growth at Borrowell. BetaKit covered its launch in November 2016 as a venture-backed Facebook marketing agency built to arm startups with data, funded by a seed round of under $1M from Vitality Capital. The agency has since widened from paid social into brand and creative work, and its published case studies include Starbucks, Campbell's, Pizza Pizza and Sportsnet. Ian Martins, then its COO, spoke at TechTO's marketing event in July 2019 on why television advertising has to be made differently now that the captive 30-second audience is gone.
Backers
Raised a sub-$1M seed round from Vitality Capital in 2016. No later financing is on the public record, and the agency does not publish an ownership statement.
