About
JAUNTIN' is a business-to-business software company, not an insurer. It builds the API-first, white-label platform an insurance carrier uses to quote, bind and issue policies automatically, so cover can be sold on demand and in small increments — and distributed either directly or embedded inside a third party's app. Co-founder Rainer Takahashi demoed it at TravelTechTO in August 2018, framing the problem as a gap in travel medical cover: he told the room that North Americans take about 150 million international trips a year and that more than half travel without proper coverage, citing a Canadian traveller whose family crowdfunded $120,000 in medical bills after an injury abroad. The demo showed a policy switched on with a swipe and off on return, priced only for the hours used, with geofencing at major airports and border crossings prompting travellers to turn cover on. The company was founded in 2015 and has since extended the same model beyond travel, launching an on-demand health programme for gig-economy workers in 2019.
Backers
Venture-backed: a first seed round in January 2018 and a further round in June 2022 led by RevTech Labs Capital are on the public record. The full investor list and total raised are not confirmed.
Quick answers
What does JAUNTIN' do?
It sells software to insurance companies rather than insurance to consumers. Its white-label platform automates quote, bind and issue so an insurer can offer on-demand and micro-insurance, including travel cover priced by the hour, and embed it in third-party apps.
Who founded JAUNTIN' and when?
It was founded in 2015; Rainer Takahashi is a co-founder and demoed the product at TechTO's TravelTechTO in August 2018.
What problem does on-demand travel insurance solve?
Takahashi's argument on stage was that most short international trips go uninsured because signing up is slow, so cover that switches on with a swipe and bills only for the hours used closes the gap.
