About
Alana Kayfetz started MomsTO in Toronto in 2017 while on leave with her son, after posting online looking for other mothers and having nineteen women show up to the first meetup. She built it out with a group of twelve into a community with events designed around the constraint that shapes the first year — you are bringing the baby — and had over 6,000 members by 2018. Its events drew press, including a wine festival for new mothers that set off a public argument about drinking and motherhood. Kayfetz, who was TechTO's director for two years before this, spoke at TechTO's MarketingTO in February 2020 about building a brand that people believe. She now runs The Mom Halo, her current community, events and podcast.
