About

Andrew Just started the company in 2021 after finding that lifting turned into a data-entry job: every set had to be typed in, so the workout stopped being the point. Train Fitness reads how an Apple Watch moves through space and uses the company's own machine-learning models to work out which exercise is happening and how many reps have gone by, with no phone in hand. By its June 2023 seed round it claimed 96% accuracy across roughly 160 exercises and more than 10,000 weekly active users, on free and paid tiers. The company took the name Motra in 2025 and now sells AI-generated workout plans alongside the tracking; its App Store listing puts the exercise library past 470 types and its user base past 100,000 lifters.

Quick answers

What does Motra do?

It tracks strength workouts automatically. The Apple Watch app reads wrist motion, works out which of 470-plus exercises you are doing and counts the reps, so nothing gets typed in mid-set.

Is Motra the same company as Train Fitness?

Yes. Andrew Just founded it as Train Fitness in 2021; it took the Motra name in 2025 and the App Store listing still carries both.

How much has Motra raised?

A US$2.5M seed led by Relay Ventures, announced in June 2023, when the app had more than 10,000 weekly active users.

Has Motra taken the TechTO stage?

No. It is in this directory because its co-founder is, for talks given before the company existed, so its talks list is empty.
