About
MapD was founded in 2013 by Todd Mostak, commercializing GPU-database research from Harvard and MIT. Renamed OmniSci in 2018, it built a GPU-accelerated SQL engine and visualization platform for large-scale, real-time analytics. At TechVancouver in January 2019, VP of Engineering David Besemer said the San Francisco company was exploring opening a Vancouver engineering office. The company rebranded to HEAVY.AI in 2022.
