About
Andrew Ostro trained as an actuary and then consulted to global insurers before starting PolicyMe in 2018. His argument on the TechTO stage in June 2026 was that life insurance resists innovation for structural reasons, not cultural ones: the events being priced are rare, policies cannot be repriced or cancelled once sold, and it can take five to seven years of data before a carrier learns whether it made a mistake. That feedback lag, plus the need for a balance-sheet partner, is what keeps new entrants out — and understanding it from the inside is what he credits for getting carriers comfortable.

Quick answers
What does PolicyMe sell?
Term life insurance bought directly online, underwritten with carrier partners, plus an expanding suite that now reaches into home and auto.
Why is life insurance hard to disrupt?
Ostro's answer on the TechTO stage: the insured events are rare, policies cannot be repriced or cancelled once sold, and a carrier may sell five to seven years of policies before the data shows a pricing mistake. That makes incumbents structurally slow to take risk.
Who founded PolicyMe?
Andrew Ostro and Laura McKay, in 2018. Ostro is CEO and was an actuary and insurance consultant before starting the company.
