Ritual launched in Toronto in 2014 around a simple observation Ray Reddy made on the TechTO stage: people spend an enormous amount of their lives standing in coffee and lunch line-ups. The app times a pickup order so it is ready as you walk in. Reddy and the founding R&D team left for Shopify in January 2025; the company continues under new leadership, and Reddy remains a board advisor.
Backers
Reported backers include Greylock Partners, Insight Partners, Georgian, Golden Venture Partners, Mistral Venture Partners and Mantella Partners. Reddy said on the TechTO stage in 2018 that Ritual had raised from Toronto investors as well as investors in Silicon Valley and New York, without naming them.

What does Ritual do?
It is an order-ahead app for coffee and lunch. You order from a nearby restaurant and the app times the order so it is ready when you arrive, telling you exactly when to leave rather than making you queue.
Who founded Ritual?
Ray Reddy, Larry Stinson and Robert Kim, in Toronto in 2014. The three had worked together earlier at BlackBerry in Waterloo, and Reddy and Kim had previously co-founded PushLife, which Google acquired in 2011.
Is Ritual still operating?
Yes. Reddy, Stinson and the R&D team left for Shopify in January 2025 and the company continues under new leadership. Reddy stayed on as a board advisor.
