About
Salesforce sells customer relationship management software — sales, service and marketing tools delivered as a subscription over the web rather than installed. It was founded on 8 March 1999 in San Francisco by Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff and Frank Dominguez, trades on the New York Stock Exchange as CRM, and reported US$41.5 billion of revenue for fiscal 2026, the year ended 31 January 2026, up 10% year over year. Its TechTO appearance was a Demo of the Month at MarketingTO in April 2019, given by a Salesforce Marketing Cloud solutions engineer whose accounts were Canadian. He opened by saying five minutes was not enough to demo everything Salesforce had bought for marketers since 2013, and showed one thing instead: Datorama, the marketing-analytics platform Salesforce had acquired for about US$800 million in 2018 and has since renamed Marketing Cloud Intelligence. The demo covered its pre-built connectors — more than a hundred, to advertising, email and social sources — the alerting agent that flags a campaign trending up or down, and dashboards a marketer can assemble without a data scientist. Marketing Cloud itself began as ExactTarget, which Salesforce bought for US$2.5 billion in 2013.

Quick answers
What does Salesforce sell?
Customer relationship management software delivered as a subscription — sales, service and marketing tools, plus its newer Agentforce and Data 360 products. It reported US$41.5 billion of revenue for the fiscal year ended 31 January 2026.
Who founded Salesforce?
Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff and Frank Dominguez, on 8 March 1999 in San Francisco. Benioff is still chair and CEO.
What was demoed at TechTO?
Not the CRM. The April 2019 Demo of the Month at MarketingTO showed Datorama, the marketing-analytics platform Salesforce bought for about US$800 million in 2018 and later renamed Marketing Cloud Intelligence — its pre-built data connectors, campaign alerting and marketer-built dashboards.
Why is this filed under Salesforce and not Salesforce Marketing Cloud?
Marketing Cloud is a Salesforce product line, not a separate company. It began as ExactTarget, which Salesforce acquired in 2013.
